Chapter 12 - Sam
The minute the door closed, I ran over to Stella.
âAre you all right?â I asked. Inside, I was seething, my wolf enraged. He wanted that fucker to pay for what heâd done. Heâd tried to take Stella. If Jameson hadnât stopped me in time, I doubted I would have been able to stop.
My hands went to Stellaâs shoulders. I needed to touch her, to know that she was still here. I glanced down at her, my eyes locking on her wrist, where red fingerprints were already blooming. The anger resurged as I took in the sight, and my wolf bristled. That asshole had hurt Stella. He had tried to kidnap her, and heâd nearly succeeded. If I had been a second or two later, he wouldâve pulled her against him and been able to use her as a hostage to ensure his safe escape.
The thought made my heart race and my wolf snarled, begging to be released so he could hunt down the other shifter and tear him to shreds.
âIâm fine,â she said, giving me a shaky smile. Her entire body was trembling.
âIâm going to kill him,â I said. I stood, fully intending to go after him. My wolf was almost entirely in control of my emotions now. The thought of nearly losing Stella again was maddening, and I wanted to teach that asshole a lesson.
He would never put a hand on Stella again.
Luke grabbed my shoulder before I could reach the door.
âEasy there,â Luke said. âI know youâre pissed, but this isnât the time.â
âWhen is the time, then?â I hissed. âWhen he goes after her again?â
âWe gave him a truce under a pack treaty,â Jameson reminded me.
âHe broke that treaty when he tried to kidnap Stella,â I snarled. But I knew it was a hollow threat. Attacking Farrow would be a death sentence right now. It was our word against theirs.
âWeâll find a way to make him pay,â Jameson promised. âBut we would risk an all-out war over this, with the only evidence being that we saw him nearly take someone.â
I didnât want to listen. I just wanted to protect Stella at all costs. But that sense of obedience and putting others before myself was still there. And I knew my alpha was right.
Still, it was a close call. I probably would have said fuck it and left, anyway, but then Stella spoke, driving everything else out of my head.
âIâm all right, Sam,â she said, getting to her feet. She gave me a self-deprecatory smile. âPlease donât start a war over a hurt wrist.â
Youâre worth starting a war for, I thought, but all I could get out was, âIâm sorry I let him grab you.â
âItâs not your fault,â she said. âReally, I think that was probably his plan the whole time. And it probably would have worked if he hadnât tried it in a room filled with ex spec-ops shifters.â
I growled. My emotions were spiraling. But through it all, I couldnât help but admire just how well Stella was handling it all.
